Creation Care, Justice and the World's Resources Several members of the congregation have an interest in the whole topic of what is sometimes referred to as Creation Care. Nationally there is much debate on how to sustainably steward the resources that we believe God has provided for the world to share. Sometimes these resources are exploited for greed. On other occasions they are used with scant consideration for the poor of the world and those who find that their voice is not heard. There is considerable scientific debate about the relative merits of renewable energy sources and nuclear power, especially after the tragic events in Japan following the tsunami in 2011. But beyond the science lies a moral dimension - how to do the 'right' thing. Down the ages the Church has had a role to play in making the wider society aware of moral issues. And this issue is perhaps one of the most challenging moral issues of our day. To this end we hosted an exhibition in June 2011 entitled 'Equilibrium'. This attempted to explain, through displays and art, the 'what, 'why' and 'when' of these challenges. The exhibition represented one person's view on the research that he had undertaken over the last few years. You can see some photos of the exhibition here. You can view most of the content of the exhibition from the tables below. All the document links lead to PDF files. You will need to have a PDF document reader (such as Acrobat™) installed on your PC. If you want to save a copy of the document rather than simply read it, your browser probably has a right-click menu item that is worded like 'Save Link As...' or 'Save Target As...' You should right-click on the View link and select this menu choice. Save the PDF file to an appropriate 'Download' folder. Alternatively, your PDF reader may have a Save button so you can save the file after you have viewed it. The final column of the table shows the size of each file. Please note that some of the larger files will take several minutes to download.
The following table contains links to a number of published papers by experts in the field of climate change, resource depletion and renewable energy.
Finally, this is a presentation that Martin made recently on the subject of Peak Oil. |
