Another Advent and Christmas season has passed. We had our usual Christmas services - a carol service on the morning of the Sunday before Christmas and an evening service shared by all three Churches. On Christmas morning we had a short service. This is very special celebration and an opportunity to share with friends on the very day we remember Jesus' incarnation for us.

A number of us went to sing carols around the wards of Leighton Hospital on the Tuesday before Christmas. For those who go it really is one of the highlights of the season and this year was no different as many of those who heard us joined in.

Our Harvest Thanksgiving service raised £221. This will be split two ways - half towards the relief effort in response to the huge floods in Pakistan, and half towards a project in Cambodia that helps needy people grow enough food to support themselves and their families.

Yesterday was our Harvest Thanksgiving service - a bit later in the year than usual. But well attended and a thought-provoking service that was led by Mrs Judi Paterson. The church looked lovely with displays on every windowsill as well as on a table at the front. As well as thinking of the many things for which we thank God, we spent some time meditating on the work of TEAR Fund in Cambodia where people are being helped simply to grow enough food for their families.

This has been an enjoyable weekend for our Church. Judy Cook, our Link Missionary from Thailand, has been in Audlem. On Saturday she joined us for our annual outing - this time to the Reaseheath Maize Maze. You can see some photos in our gallery. There are two mazes and we completed them both. The weather was lovely so it was fun to do something together and share the time with Judy. In the evening Judy showed us pictures and a DVD of the children from Hope Home in Chiang Mai. On the Sunday at our communion service Wilmot Penlington was received into membership.

Last weekend we held our annual Garden Party at Alan and Judi's home. This event is arranged jointly between Crewe's Union Street Church, Market Street Church in Nantwich and ourselves. It raises financial support for Judy Cook, a Baptist missionary in Chang Mai in Thailand, where she works with disabled and orphan children in Hope Home. We were delighted this year to raise £350. Usually we are looking at the sky and wondering if the rain will hold off (it always seems to!) but this year we wondered how we would have enough shade for everyone to be comfortable! Praise God!

This week we are starting a new Bible Study series studying the Ten Commandments. The series is based on the book and ministry of J. John, who preached around Britain to many thousands of Christians and non-Christians. We hope to learn the relevance of this important Biblical teaching to modern life. Do come along and join us for some lively study and discussion! Check the times on the calendar.

Easter is a very busy time of year in Church life and particularly in our ecumenical life. Over the past six weeks we have met each Sunday for soup lunch. Quite apart from the excellent soup, we enjoy good conversation and have the pleasure of raising more than £700 for charity. This year the money was divided between the YMCA in Crewe and sponsoring a 'shelter box' (as used after the Haiti earthquake). We have also shared together in the Lent Course. On Maunday Thursday there was an ecumenical choice: a special meal together or a simple communion service that reminded us of the original Easter supper that Jesus shared with his disciples at which he gave them the new commandment to love one another.

Today we met to walk around the village in silent witness following the Cross. Our young people read the account of Jesus' trial and cricifixion. This is always a very moving occasion.

Judy Cook has written to tell us of an illness that is affecting many of the children at Hope Home in Thailand. You can read more about this on the BMS World Mission website. Please do remember these children in your prayers this Easter.

There are three new poems written by Peter Roberts in the poetry section. We do hope you enjoy these and that you find them interesting and helpful. One has a very specific winter theme, bearing in mind the weather we have had recently! The others remind us of Christ as a child. Send us an e-mail if this month's poetry choice stirs any childhood memories for you.

Here we are at the start of a new year. We have all enjoyed our special services over the Christmas period. Our carol service was in the morning, which made a change. Let us know what you thought of it. The 'choir' sang three new carols written by Val Hawthorne that really added to the occasion. Many people took part by reading or singing. A big thank you to everyone. Judi led our servive on Christmas morning which included some reflections from Thailand where our missionary, Judy Cook, is based. There have been opportunities too simply to spend time together. Thank you to Gerald and Eileeen for providing a lovely New Year lunch. We look forward to what God has in store for us in 2010, and we remember especially in our prayers those known to each one of us for whom life is particularly hard at present.

We had our largest orchestra ever for our carol singing at Leighton Hospital on Monday evening - five instruments in all! And we were not short of singers either! The patients (and staff) really appreciate hearing the carols that we sing and we felt that this year the response was as positive as ever. So a big thank you to everyone who took part and thank you to Linda and her colleagues at the hospital for making all the arrangements.

Eunice wants to thank everyone who helped with the Christmas Shoebox appeal. Altogether 260 shoeboxes were filled and have been sent to the warehouse for distribution. One hundred and thirty five boxes were filled by Bob and Carrie's customers at Inglenook Cafe, but many boxes were filled by individual children and adults frm the village and each one makes a difference. So a big thank you to everyone.
