This is the
first service in the series.

Our online services during Advent,
Christmas and the first few weeks of New Year will follow the same path as the
in-person services. This means that they
will be a mix of the ‘Unwrapping the Names of Christmas’ from the church in
California and a series from Colossians from our good friend Richard Holmes.
This week the online service is a
‘replay’ of the in-person service on November 30th.
I chose this as our first hymn
because Paul starts his epistle with the salutation “Grace and peace to you
from God our Father”. This hymn states very simply that everything He has
made shows his faithfulness and love; and that his constant presence with us
brings strength, hope, peace and blessings too numerous to describe.

This Psalm highlights the glory of God's creation, reinforcing Colossians chapter
one's emphasis on Christ's role as the image of the invisible God and the one
through whom all things were created.

This is a wonderful
hymn of praise about God’s creation.

This message is the first in our series. If you have a Bible or Bible app to hand, you
might like to follow in Colossians chapter 1 verses 1 to 13.

to the message. It begins with Richard
reading the passage
I realise that I use these words every week to guide your
thoughts and I still think they are a helpful summary.
As you watched the message
today was there a moment when you sensed the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you? Then tell Jesus about it. Or maybe you simply had a ‘lightbulb’ moment
which you would like to thank God for.
Spend a few moments to thank
God for all his goodness to you in the last week.
Spend a few minutes in confession.
Take a few minutes to pray
for others who you feel burdened
for. If you have received the Church email,
it will give you some suggestions.
Now spend a few moments praying for the fellowship of the
church to which we belong and its witness
to friends, family, neighbours, the young and the old, and to the wider world.
This hymn was
Richard’s choice to close. I have chosen
a ‘Celtic’ version for the video, which mainly seems to determine the musical
instruments that accompany the singing.
I hope you like it.

Thank you Father for this
introduction to Paul’s epistle and now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of God and the fellowship and support of the Holy Spirit be with
us all, now and evermore,
Amen.
