Audlem Baptist Church Online Service for the

The Sermon on the Mount

This is the first in our new series from Matthew’s Gospel chapters 5 to 8.

Beatitudes – Kingdom values for Kingdom people

Introduction

This set of messages comes from Calne Free Church in Wiltshire during the autumn 2022 and the spring of 2023.  We will be guided through Matthew’s account of what is arguably the best-known and best documented piece of teaching ministry that Jesus ever spoke.

We have also just come through the period of Lent and all the events of Easter and have been reminded yet again of the uniqueness of our King Lord Jesus.  We have sung that “there was none other good enough to pay the price of sin”.  We have also seen in our previous online series how the apostle Paul poured out his life to demonstrate that all of this was so that God could draw all people everywhere to faith in him.

So it seemed to me that the best thing we could do was to re-visit this wonderful ‘sermon’ and hear in Jesus’ own words just how upside-down and counter-cultural he wanted his Church to be as we take his message to people we know.

I trust you are going to be blessed as we journey together.

Hymn:  King of Kings, Majesty

I chose this hymn because our new series is all about the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ and this hymn is all about the King and how we relate to him.

Bible Reading:  Matthew Chapter 5 verses 1 to 12

Please read our passage for today before we listen to the message.  If you have your own Bible to hand, please open it at Matthew chapter 5 and read the first twelve verses.  If you don’t have a Bible nearby, you can click the icon above and the passage will be displayed in a separate browser tab.

Today’s Message: Beatitudes – Kingdom Values for Kingdom People

This first message of the series is from September 2022 around the time of the death of our late Queen Elizabeth.  The speaker is Charlie Fadipe, who is one of the preachers we will hear during this series.  He is the full-time pastor and heads up the leadership team.

Prayers

As you watched the message today was there a moment when you sensed the Holy Spirit speaking directly to you?  Then tell Jesus about it.  Or maybe you simply had a ‘lightbulb’ moment which you would like to thank God for.

Spend a few moments to thank God for all his goodness to you in the last week.

Spend a few minutes in confession.

Take a few minutes to pray for others who you feel burdened for.

Now spend a few moments praying for the fellowship of the church to which we belong and its witness to friends, family, neighbours, the young and the old, and to the wider world.

Song:  Jesus, You Are Changing Me

I am very fond of this song and I was reminded of it as I listened to the message today.

A Closing Prayer for Humility

Heavenly Father,
We come before you today wholly unworthy of even being in your presence.
We thank you for the gift of salvation through your Son that made it possible for us to gather in your name today.
Help us to be willing to serve others even when our efforts may go unnoticed.
Help us to be gracious and forgiving of others when wronged.
Lord, please grant us compassion and humility of heart.
In your name we pray
.
Amen.
