| Not a Dream of Imagination |

Not the setting of a fairy story,
Or a dream of imagination,
But the sublime context of history;
A specific place in time and space.
Not 'once-upon-a-time',
But 'in the days of the Emporor Augustus',
During the first census
Of the entire Roman Empire.
In the pages of ancient history,
The birth of the baby Jesus
Is as reliably authentic
As the birth of Julius Caesar.
Julius, Augustus, Jesus;
Two thought they had authority;
The other was born in a stable
And died on a Roman cross!
